Paris just won a little museum dedicated to cheese with the right to tastings, store and live production of dairy products. The Dairy Museum opened in June and occupies the space of a former 300 m² restaurant inside a 17th century building in the 4th arrondissement, on Île Saint-Louis, just behind Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The museum delves into the history of cheese, the ancestral knowledge of its production and the landscapes linked to it, focusing on the most diverse examples of French cheeses and the producing regions of the country.
The visit is divided into four main parts: the first is about cheese culture; the second focuses on its history; then there is live production by a cheesemaker and, finally, the tasting. For this reason, the place is also often called the “living cheese museum”.
In addition to the museum space, the address has an area dedicated to courses, a cellar for cheese-making workshops and a store that includes wines, beers and juices.
