The Champigny-sur-Marne police station in Paris was targeted by a mob armed with steel bars and fireworks. The incident occurred on Saturday, around midnight.
The attackers set off fire works in the direction of the police station and tried to break in. The mob consisted of 40 people, some of them armed with metal bars. A video of the violent attack was posted by the Paris police on their twitter handle.
The attackers smashed windows and damaged cars outside the station but failed to break in. Fortunately no police officers were injured in the attack.
The motive behind the attack still remains unknown. However it is speculated that the attack might have been organized by leaders of the drug gangs present in the area as a retaliation to the efforts of the police to restore law and order in Champigny-sur-Marne, an area located about 12 kilometers east of the central city.
This mob attack is one of the many law violating incidents that are currently on the rise in the state of France. The country’s declining economy amid the Corona Virus pandemic has led to unrest among the citizens, with some turning towards unlawful means to earn their keep.
