The political thermometer in Parliament between the government and SYRIZA went up in red, focusing on the Lytra-Tsiodra report on mortality outside the ICU, on the occasion of the discussion of the state budget 2022 in plenary.
The deputy of finance, Theodoros Skylakakis, reacted strongly to SYRIZA’s accusations that the prime minister is either uninformed or a liar about the existence of the relevant study, opposing that “it is sad to be in opposition to the deaths of our fellow citizens”.
“It is unthinkable for you to oppose death after death,” ND parliamentary representative Fotini Arabatzi reacted.
The atmosphere was sparked when SYRIZA MP Dora Avgeri claimed that “while according to the report there is an increase in mortality outside the ICU, the government, which has whistled the artificial end of the pandemic, is trying to cultivate another false image.” .
“The prime minister is, either a liar or uninformed, and ignores a very important research by scientists, members of the committee for the management of the pandemic. In any case, he is dangerous and accountable to the Greek people,” said Ms. Avgeri and added:
“The data from the study show that the NSS is unable to respond when it has a load. With more than 400 intubated patients, we are losing patients who could have lived under other conditions. Budget with glass legs “.
“Yesterday the country had 130 deaths, recording the second worst day since the beginning of the pandemic. In the government you see the 19,900 people who lost their lives as simple numbers. Based on the curve in the 7-day index, Greece is by far the worst position. “Not only in the EU, but also in countries around the world. We have hundreds of deaths every day because the government has artificially whistled the end of the pandemic,” Ms. Avgeri concluded.
“Opposition with deaths is not meant to take place”, reacted the parliamentary representative of ND Fotini Arabatzi, citing a relevant report of the SYRIZA MP, Nikos Filis.
“You are doing this again and again. This is what Mr. Polakis is doing. Opposition for deaths and upon deaths”, stressed Ms. Arabatzi, characterizing inaccurate what Mrs. Avgeri said.
“You are trying to bring the data to your own measures and weights by lies. It is vulgar and cheap. You are not saying that ICUs today, and in the midst of a pandemic, have increased and added thousands of health professionals in the health system. Hide that in your “period and without a pandemic, we had 90 expectations for the ICU. These are not in your interest in SYRIZA”, commented Ms. Arabatzi.
At the same time, he rejected the allegations of Ms. Avgeri, pointing out that “the increased mortality outside the ICU, as mentioned in the study concerned 5% while the rest were in the ICU and were seriously ill.”
“It is particularly unpleasant to form an opposition based on the data of the deaths of our fellow citizens”, pointed out Mr. Skylakakis and attacked SYRIZA accusing him of distorting the truth and reality.
“The number of deaths in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic until today, which is at the top of the wave, is based on the latest data, in a better position than Italy and Spain. And the key to intubation is the lack of anesthesiologists,” he said. Mr. Skylakakis.
At the same time, he emphasized vaccination while accusing SYRIZA of turning a blind eye to vaccinators.
“Vaccination is a crucial factor, because when you get to the ICU, the chances are more difficult.
“If the population had responded to the vaccination, there would have been no problem. The ¼ would not have been intubated and lives would have been saved. If you want it, why then turn a blind eye to the vaccinators? “The pandemic requires a lot of responsibility. No one is infallible. You are much more concerned with the political confrontation and not what is happening in the real life of the place”, Mr. Skylakakis underlined,
The parliamentary representative of SYRIZA, Euclides Tsakalotos, intervened in the controversy, saying characteristically:
“The question is very specific. The Prime Minister said he did not see any study that proves that there is evidence that there is a difference between intubation inside and outside the ICU – and a study comes out that outside the ICU there is an 87% increased risk of the patient dying. The Prime Minister could have had this study since May. If he did not know, he did not read it, he should have apologized. Did he know or is he kidding? This is what your colleague asked you. What did he say? We do not play with deaths, we have never done it and we will never do it. “We face it, you tell us we are playing with death. What you say we turn a blind eye to vaccinators gives you very few points and does a lot of damage to our joint effort.”
Mr. Tsakalotos also added that the trolling that takes place “about Koumoundourou’s panic and impasse, suits ND which does not give any convincing answer”.
“You could have resolved the issue with an apology. But you did not,” he added.
Responding, Mr. Skylakakis referred to the complaint made by the president of POEDIN, Michalis Giannakos in 2019, about deaths due to lack of intensive beds, noting that SYRIZA is bothered by the truth.
“ICUs are not like dragon’s teeth. Throw them away and grow. ICUs are being prepared. And the truth is deeply guilty for SYRIZA. We received 566 ICUs and today we have 700 ICUs for Quint. The answer is simple. When “There is a lack of ICU, mortality increases when there is a large number of intubated. The causal relationship arises when this small number is left out,” said Mr. Skylakakis.
For his part, the parliamentary representative of the Hellenic Solution, Antonis Mylonakis, spoke of an “ICU monkey”.
“You talked about 700 ICUs but not all of them are okay. It is not possible to talk about ICU monkeys without doctors and nursing staff with a campaign bed. Obviously the prime minister should have known about the study and had all the weapons when he spoke in Parliament. “The vaccine is the last weapon. You do not apologize even for those who lost their lives. That is why the Hellenic Solution is calling for elections here and now,” said Mr. Mylonakis.
