Parliament: Infrastructure projects in Mati voted – SYRIZA, KKE and MERA25 voted against25

The Athens-Nicosia Memorandum of Cooperation for the implementation of infrastructure projects for the reconstruction and upgrading of the fire-affected areas of Eastern Attica was ratified by the Plenary Session of the Parliament. ND, Movement for Change and Hellenic Solution were in favor, while SYRIZA, KKE and MERA25 voted against.

In fact, especially the refusal of SYRIZA to vote for the works in Mati is added to the refusal of the party of the official opposition a few days ago, to vote for the donation of the St. Niarchos, for the construction of a Pediatric Hospital in Thessaloniki. This is because the new hospital will not be a NPDD but a Legal Entity under Private Law.

The Deputy Minister of Environment & Energy, in charge of spatial planning and urban environment, Nikos Tagaras, noted that the memorandum concerns a donation from the Republic of Cyprus, which, after consultation with the Greek government and Nicosia and local municipalities, will be used for the construction of social housing in Skoufeika, Rafina, covering an area of 16 acres. As he said, about 8,000 square meters will be built, ie about 100 houses, with an average of 80 sq.m. each one.

“I know that the needs in Eastern Attica are many for both health facilities and rehabilitation facilities through social housing and order in the area. [..] We started from Mati, we will expand next door and everywhere “said Mr. Tagaras and added:” But after the cooperation and understanding, between the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenic Republic it was agreed as the optimal use of money (to be) the social housing “.

It was preceded by criticism from the official opposition with main points, the change of the purpose of the initial agreement (during SYRIZA), from the construction of a hospital in the area, in social housing “without it is clear who will be the beneficiaries”, as well as for “photographic” device that allows a nightclub in a forest area. Indicatively, the rapporteur of SYRIZA, Christos Spirtzis, had characterized ND as a “party of the lost money of the fire victims”, talking about the inaction of the government in Mati. SYRIZA Environment Minister Socrates Famellos had demanded the withdrawal of the bill while the party MP Theano Fotiou had stated that Mati will become another case of direct assignments and that the 10 million of Cyprus, unfortunately, will be wasted in a wrong project. the “mothers” of the staff state.

Commenting on SYRIZA’s criticism that in the area of forest recreation, which is also funded by the Cypriot donation, there will be a night “bar”, Mr. Tagaras clarified that the installation of small prefabricated wooden houses for use as “refreshments” will be allowed. of their operation under the supervision of the concessionaire, in order to have some income that will go exclusively for the maintenance and protection of the space itself.

In his speech, the parliamentary representative of the Movement for Change, Costas Skandalidis spoke about “ND-SYRIZA table tennis”. “There is a confrontation that repeats the same arguments, the same pattern, it is like two parties playing ping-pong at the same table, and we want to have a distance from that table. So we do not want to have an equal distance to the ND and SYRIZA, as the government complains to us, we want to have a serious distance from the ping-pong table that has been played all this time “.

KKE MP Christos Katsotis stressed that the wounds of the deadly fire in Eastern Attica, in Mati, are still open: In Mati there are still people living in the camps after almost four years, said Mr. Katsotis who pointed out the need for area for a hospital.

Hellenic Solution MP Maria Athanassiou said that “we can not be negative in this moving gesture of Cypriot Hellenism”. He stressed, however, that the partnership between Greece and Cyprus [..] “Under no circumstances should there be an occasion for mismanagement of the available resources, service of private interests, but also a low level of redevelopment of the space”.

For her part, the MEPA25 MP, Maria Apatzidi, underlined that “similar donations show the quagmire in which a memorandum Greece has fallen, that the state can no longer meet its basic obligations towards its inhabitants”. He also pointed out the risk that the timetables for the implementation of the donation will not be met.

ND MP Vassilis Oikonomou spoke about “political slips” of SYRIZA: “He voted against the Pediatric Hospital in Thessaloniki because it is privately owned and now he says a second ‘no’: Today there is a winner, the people who will have secured their social housing , and a loser, you who said “no” As for the hospital in the area, Mr. Economou said that “the hospital in the Mediterranean will become a public hospital, but it will be the result of a comprehensive study by the Ministry of Health, no from you, not from Cyprus “.

After the meeting, sources of the SYRIZA Central Committee spoke about a “speculation” that “has its limits” as well, as “ND, faithful to the tactics of the graveyard, is trying to do black and white”, regarding the ratification of the Memorandum of Cooperation . “After two and a half years of Mitsotakis’s government and three and a half years of captivity, the rehabilitation in Mati can not be bars instead of hospitals,” the same sources noted.
