Parliament: ND votes ‘absent’ in the vote for the commission of inquiry

By Dimitris Gatsiou

With “present” the New Democracy will be placed in the vote for the establishment of a commission of inquiry regarding the case of monitoring the telephone of the president of PASOK-KIN.AL., Nikos Androulakis.

New Democracy will not trivialize the process… We have given the parliamentary minority the right to set up commissions of inquiry… What we are interested in is obviously that all aspects of this case be illuminated and that useful conclusions be drawn on how we can institutionally correct the long-standing pathogens and distortions. We will move in this direction and during the voting the New Democracy will vote “present”, said the government representative, Yiannis Oikonomou, during the press briefing.

“During this examination we have said that it would be useful for the heads of the national service to come and testify their own opinions in the previous period as well, so that we can all find out what happened in the past. Not to go to offsets, but to to draw useful conclusions about what was true and what were the pathologies that we need to correct,” he added.

Mr. Economou emphasized that the country is moving forward for the 2023 elections with the institutional framework that exists at the moment, when asked about the scenarios for changing the electoral law. As far as Greek-Turkish is concerned, what he noted is that Ankara, throughout the previous period with a rhetorical sharpening and with constructions that are in complete dissonance with the truth and reality, is trying to create its own impressions. “It is in the full knowledge of our Allies what the reality is. Greece respects its obligations in the Alliance, treaties and international laws and has always been and will continue to be a factor of stability and peace in the Aegean and the Mediterranean,” he pointed out.
