“Unprecedented increases in electricity have created debt dominoes, due to unpaid electricity bills, to the Energy Managers (IPTO, HEDNO) and the Municipalities, while a general weakness and attitude of payments is evolving that attracts more and more people all over the market. “With energy poverty, a large part is unable to pay the exorbitant bills, while companies are now talking about padlocks”, underline the SYRIZA-PS MPs.
Finally, they point out that the Greek energy market is characterized by distortions and price manipulation, due to its oligopolistic nature, while the competent supervisory authorities (Energy Regulatory Authority and Competition Commission) remain inactive, and that measures and plans are required. The beginning of the crisis of accuracy in energy speaks of a temporary phenomenon, from all sources it appears that the prices of gas and electricity will remain high and volatile at least until 2023.
