Parliament: The debate on PASOK’s proposal for a commission of inquiry in the Androulaki case has begun

The commission of inquiry that we are proposing does not investigate periods but cases, i.e. the Androulakis case, the Koukakis case, the case of possible other surveillance and the KKE case, PASOK rapporteur Haris Kastanidis emphasized in his statement, as the first speaker in the plenary session of the Parliament, the which discusses the proposal filed by the PASOK-Movement for Change Committee, on the subject: “Investigation of the case of violation of the privacy of the communications of the President of PASOK-Movement for Change and MEP Mr. Nikos Androulakis by the National Intelligence Service [ΕΥΠ] or by other natural or legal persons, the confirmed attempt to trap his mobile phone with the malicious software Predator, the illegal use of it in the Greek territory and the investigation into the existence of responsibilities of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and any other natural or legal person involved “.

The debate will conclude with an electronic roll-call vote on the PASOK-Change Movement proposal. It is noted that the decision to set up the commission of inquiry, following a proposal by the opposition, requires 120 positive votes and not the majority of the body.

After briefly referring to the previous events, Mr. Kastanidis spoke of “colossal questions” that must be examined:

Regarding the Prime Minister’s statement that he did not know about the legal connection of Mr. Androulakis, Mr. Kastanidis asked if it was indeed a legal connection since, as he said, according to the Constitution, the deputies are not limited in any way, that for any an illegal act requires the permission of the body, except for a self-inflicted felony. “Did the EYP know” that this is a suicide? Let it be said,” said Mr. Kastanidis.

Regarding Mr. Mitsotakis’s position that the prime minister is not allowed nor should he know who is being watched, Mr. Kastanidis wondered why then Mr. Mitsotakis fired the head of the EYP if he was doing his job well?

On the occasion of today’s statements by the Minister of State, Mr. Gerapetritis on a radio station that no one knows the reason for the surveillance, Mr. Kastanidis asked, why then is the government calling Mr. Androulakis to inform him? If, also, there is a claim that no result was obtained from the monitoring, then they should know the reason for the monitoring, said the MP of PASOK-Movement for Change.

All this leads us to the fact that the commission of inquiry is more necessary than ever, said Mr. Kastanidis and emphasized: When there is an institutional diversion, no one has the right, not even the majority, not to collude with the opposition so that similar incidents do not happen in the future things.

In addition to the legal connection, Mr. Kastanidis said that the investigative committee should investigate the issue of the Predator spy software, with which Mr. Androulakis’s mobile phone was attempted to be infected, and in particular about who is related to it, who is the clientele, etc. As he said, there are reports of increased use of it and raise questions about the relationships of private individuals who own it with the EYP. Has the agency, in a kind of outsourcing, commissioned individuals to do work on its behalf? All this should be investigated, said Mr. Kastanidis.

The next question raised by the PASOK rapporteur is who else is possibly being monitored? Journalists and politicians? As he noted, the journalist Koukakis has preceded him: Initially, he is subjected to the legal link, and then his mobile phone is infected with the same infected link.. What is happening, are there other people? At the same time, Mr. Kastanidis said that the matter raised by the KKE, regarding the monitoring of its telephone center, should also be investigated, noting that there is the assurance of the president of ADAE that he will draw up a conclusion because he is checking the case.

Finally, regarding the coalition’s position that other cases should be investigated over time… and in the reports on the Kotzias, Valavani and Varoufakis cases, Mr. Kastanidis said that all of them replied that they were not being monitored. Of course they should investigate, when there is evidence: “The commission of inquiry we are proposing does not investigate periods but cases, namely the Androulakis case, the Koukaki case, the case of possible other surveillance and the KKE case,” said the rapporteur of PASOK-Movement for Change.
