The discussion and voting of the bill of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, “ratification of a code of legislation for the reception, the international protection of third country nationals and stateless persons and the temporary protection in case of mass influx of displaced persons” were completed in the Plenary Session of the parliament.

The bill was passed by a majority with the positive votes of the ND MPs, while all the Opposition parties voted against its principle.

The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakis, rejected the accusations of the Opposition, “for the communication and dead-end policy of the government that does not solve the immigration-refugee problem”, defended the bill, emphasizing that “the codification of laws and regulations framework of good legislation and transparency “and announced in the coming days that ND will submit, as it has committed, the new Immigration Code.

He stressed the efforts to decongest the refugee and immigration structures on the islands and in mainland Greece, while stating that “on December 31, 2022 there will be no structure and no accommodation apartment in Athens, which has received intense pressure on the Immigration”

“The flows are visibly reduced and this allows the Immigrant to plan safely and implement with confidence,” he said.

“The bottom line is that our country remains committed to the principles and rules of international law and guards its borders firmly and effectively,” Mitarakis said, calling on Turkey to assume its own responsibilities and stop systematic propaganda. against Greece, that it allegedly proceeds with illegal actions.

SYRIZA parliamentary representative Andreas Michailidis accused the government of “tactics and lack of a national strategic plan for effectively addressing the refugee-immigration problem”.

The SYRIZA rapporteur George Psychogios moved in the same direction, talking about a false narrative of the government that continues about open borders, while accusing it of non-essential negotiation and claiming in the EU in view of the creation of a new Immigration Pact. “We want a cohesive society, not invisible people,” he said.
