Participants of the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss cryptocurrencies

During the Davos Agenda, which runs from 25 to 29 January, two separate sessions will be dedicated to cryptocurrencies and digital currencies of the Central Bank.

According to the information on the website of the World Economic Forum, participants of the Davos Agenda online event will discuss cryptocurrency-related issues during two sessions. Sessions titled Resetting Digital Currencies will take place on Monday and Thursday.

The opening session will feature five speakers, including Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey and Western Union President and CEO Hikmet Ersek. The panel on Thursday is comprised of four speakers, including Singapore’s senior government minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and chairman of the Beijing-based National Institute for Financial Research, Zhu Min.

“COVID-19 has accelerated the long-term transition from cash,” according to the program for both sessions. “Meanwhile, central bank digital currencies are emerging that have the potential to change the way people use money around the world. What measures and partnerships are needed to seize the opportunities presented by the rise of digital currencies? ”

Davos Agenda is a five-day online summit bringing together the world’s leading figures in the finance industry and government officials. Sessions on cryptocurrencies fall under the theme of the Just Economy Summit. Other topics include Technology for Good, How to Save the Planet, and a Healthy Future.

As a reminder, in December, the WEF tested a blockchain platform for tracking carbon emissions. In October, the World Economic Forum and the Global Blockchain Business Council released a report examining standards for the development and regulation of blockchains around the world. According to the July WEF report, new technologies, including blockchain, can stimulate economic growth through “environmentally friendly” solutions.
