PASOK conference begins: With green sun, Simitis, Papandreou, Venizelos, Diamantopoulou

The central PASOK-Movement for Change Conference starts this afternoon at 18:00 at the closed stadium TAE KVO NTO of Faliro with the central slogan “Society in the Foreground”.

The conference will begin with an open political speech by the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, who achieved the reunification and reappearance of all his predecessors. Former Prime Ministers Costas Simitis and George Papandreou will speak, as well as Evangelos Venizelos, as well as executives who had been removed for years, such as former Minister Anna Diamantopoulou.

The President of the Congress will be the former minister Petros Efthymiou, an executive with anti-dictatorship activity and a founding executive of PASOK, as he was a member of the first Central Committee in September 1974.

According to information, personalities such as professors Nikos Alivizatos (responsible for the internal party elections of 2017), Costas Chrysogonos (former SYRIZA MEP) and Giannis Panousis (former minister during SYRIZA) are expected to address the plenary session of the conference.

Androulakis open invitation to the world

“We expect it to be an open conference. We call on the citizens to watch our work in this new effort we are making,” the PASOK president said yesterday, referring to an additional step that completes the organizational structure of the party and then drops the weight in shaping the program.

First day with Androulaki, Simitis and greetings

The first day of the conference will end with a greeting from the former Prime Minister and former President of PASOK Costas Simitis, while the representatives of the parliamentary parties, who have been invited, will also speak.

On behalf of ND, the Secretary of the Political Committee Pavlos Marinakis will be present. SYRIZA will be represented by the spokesman, Nasos Iliopoulos. On behalf of the KKE the conference will be greeted by MP Christos Katsotis and on behalf of MERA25 the spokesman Michalis Kritharidis.

The congress of the Movement will be greeted with a recorded message by the Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa, the former Prime Minister of Italy and General Secretary of the Partito Democratico, Enrico Letta, the President of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Cristina Narbol and SPL the President of the Slovenian Socialists Tanja Fajon.

The conference will be honored by the presence of the leader of the Eurogroup of Democrats and Socialists Irache Garcίαa Perez, the President of the European Socialist Party (PES) Sergey Stanishev and delegations of the German SPD, EDEK and the Romanian Socialist Party.

Referring to the issue of post-election cooperation, he claimed, speaking to SKAI, that N.D. and SYRIZA “pose arrogant false dilemmas, not because they want PASOK and cooperation, but because they want the votes of the Democratic Party”, while continuing to ask the citizens to vote for PASOK, noting: “We are not a party-babushka. “A vote for us is not a vote for Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Mitsotakis. It is a vote for a social democratic government.”

Regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to the USA, Mr. Androulakis stated that his speech in the Congress was “balanced”, clarifying that the trip will be evaluated in the coming months by the behavior of the American government on major geopolitical issues in the wider region and mainly in the blackmail of Tayyip Erdogan to NATO for the accession of Finland and Sweden.
