PASOK conference with slogan: Society in the foreground

Countdown for the 3rd Congress of PASOK-Movement for Change, as tomorrow, Friday, May 20, 2022 at 18:00, the three-day process begins at the closed stadium TAE KVO NTO of Faliro, with the central slogan: “Society in the Foreground”.

Charilaou Trikoupi’s staff aspires to be an essential political milestone in the dynamic course of the Movement, which began with 270,000 voters in December and continued with 180,000 on May 8 for the by-elections and the return of the green sun. The new brand will be officially presented at the conference.

The first day will be dominated by the open political speech of the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, who is expected to give the political position of the party with emphasis on the social democratic identity, the submission of modern alternative governance proposals and the demarcation of the SYRIZA.

Foreign presences

The congress of the Movement will be greeted with a recorded message by the Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa, the former Prime Minister of Italy and General Secretary of the Partito Democratico, Enrico Letta, the President of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) Cristina Narbol and SPL the President of the Slovenian Socialists Tanja Fajon.

The conference will be honored by the presence of the leader of the Eurogroup of Democrats and Socialists Irache Garcίαa Perez, the President of the European Socialist Party (PES) Sergey Stanishev and delegations of the German SPD, EDEK and the Romanian Socialist Party.

Representatives of the invited parliamentary parties will also speak. On behalf of ND, the Secretary of the Political Committee Pavlos Marinakis will be present. SYRIZA will be represented by the spokesman, Nasos Iliopoulos. On behalf of the KKE the conference will be greeted by MP Christos Katsotis and on behalf of MERA25 the spokesman Michalis Kritharidis.

Andreas Spyropoulos, the new secretary of PASOK

Andreas Spyropoulos will be officially nominated for the position of secretary of PASOK – Movement for Change, something that has been known for a long time.

This is a very close collaborator of Nikos Androulakis, with whom they have known since their student years in Xanthi, PASP and PASOK. Mr. Spyropoulos was the leader of the two campaigns of Nikos Androulakis in the internal party elections of 2017 and 2021.

The former in the spotlight

All former PASOK presidents will have a special place at the conference. Especially for Fofi Gennimata there will be a vacancy in the first row and Nikos Androulakis will symbolically leave some flowers in her memory.

On the first day of the conference, former Prime Minister Costas Simitis will also speak, who has been in regular contact with the president lately. He has studied and finds interesting the proposals of the Movement especially for health and social housing, estimating that the country needs a serious social-democratic proposal of government. After all, recently in an article in the NEWS, Mr. Simitis had expressed himself positively for the current president of the Movement.

The other former prime minister and current MP, George Papandreou, is expected to speak on Saturday. On the same day, the speech of Evangelos Venizelos is expected without having “locked” 100%. Mr. Androulakis went to Mr. Venizelos’s office yesterday afternoon and they met for a while, before leaving to attend the event in honor of Juncker at the Academy of Athens. Mr. Androulakis had made a phone call in order to break the ice between them, as they had not communicated since Mr. Androulakis was elected last December.
