The measures of the Government come with a long delay and however are not enough to deal with the adverse consequences of the energy crisis, commented Dimitris Mantzos, spokesman for PASOK – Movement for Change for the statements of the Prime Minister.
“Ultimately, it turns out that the budget margins have been and are, as we have been arguing for many weeks, despite the irony of government officials. The overpayment of VAT in state coffers has created room for strengthening our weak fellow citizens.
We call on the Government to adopt -at lastly- our proposals for immediate relief and targeted support of the most vulnerable citizens with:
A ceiling on the adjustment clause, taxation of the super-profits of the electricity producers, reduction of the VAT on basic consumer goods, reduction of the VAT on fuel, increase of the minimum wage and a new EKAS for the low-income pensioners.
“A welfare state means integrated and not piecemeal policies to support those in real need,” Mantzos said.
