PASOK-KINAL: The tragic event in Evros reveals the vulnerabilities of immigration policy

“The tragic event in Evros with the multi-day confinement of refugees and immigrants on an island in the river and the confirmation of the death of a child underline the vulnerabilities of the immigration policy”, the Press Office of PASOK-Movement for Change notes in a statement regarding the matter with the refugees in Evros.

As the movement’s Press Office notes, “PASOK-Movement for Change intends to submit the incident to parliamentary scrutiny in order to answer under what conditions the 38 Syrian refugees were found on the island, how they were trapped there for several days, what were the actions of the services of the Greek state and what was the attitude of the Turkish authorities”.

“The guarding of the borders and the parallel unwavering protection of human rights, the substantial prevention of the instrumentalization of immigration by Turkey and the fair distribution of the accommodation of asylum seekers and refugees among the European states must be the components of an integrated and coherent European immigration policy”, concludes PASOK – KINAL.
