PASOK-KINAL’s proposals for ‘social housing’

Incentives and tax reliefs for rents and housing costs include, among other things, the comprehensive proposal elaborated by PASOK-KINAL for social housing. With its proposal, PASOK considers that a solution is given to the expensive cost of housing young people, students and families in cheap housing.

In a statement he states how “according to ELSTAT’s recent inflation announcement, the cost of housing has become more expensive by 32.5% within a year, increases in student housing rental prices reach up to 22%, while the available stock of student housing has decreased significantly, by 25% compared to last year, especially in popular tourist cities. Those who are undoubtedly hit particularly hard are the small and medium social classes and the new generation.”

The president of the party, Nikos Androulakis presented a set of immediate and long-term measures utilizing the experience of other European countries such as Portugal. In particular, he proposed through the Recovery Fund to build thousands of homes that will be available at low rent to young people and families, as this way a public reserve of social housing will gradually be created.

Incentives are provided, such as tax breaks as well as financing the cost of renovation and energy upgrades, owners of empty homes will be encouraged and committed to then make them available for long-term rental at affordable prices.

For the acute problem of student housing, it is proposed to build new student residences.

The package of immediate measures includes:

– The expansion of the rent subsidy with social criteria

-The additional allowance to every student studying in a city of main tourist destination

-The reinstatement of the rent tax deduction for children who study away from home

The PASOK-Movement for Change program for Social Housing has been posted on the party’s digital platform. There, proposals can be submitted for the solution of local problems as well as new ideas on the issue.
