Countdown for the return of the historical name “PASOK” to the name and front of Charilaou Trikoupi, as the party marches to its first congress (May 20-22) under the leadership of Nikos Androulakis.
On May 8, during the elections for the election of members and members of municipal and prefectural organizations, “the name of the party in the next parliamentary elections will be signed by the thousands who will participate in the elections of May 8”, as he recently announced in his speech to Patras Nikos Androulakis.
The president of the Movement, who even before his election used the title “PASOK MEP”, had promised that the name of the party would be decided by its members.
So far, the official name used by Charilaou Trikoupi is “PASOK – Movement for Change”. According to information, in the internal party referendum of May 8, this will be one of the two options, while the “PASOK – Democratic Party” is preferred as the second.
The rationale is for the word PASOK to return to the title of the party, with the aim of the total restoration of one of the most powerful political brand names of the Metapolitism. Nevertheless, there will be an additional designation, as a sign of respect for the collaborators and members of the party who do not come from PASOK, but from other bodies, such as e.g. DIMAR, Potami, EDEM, Citizens’ Movements, etc.
The adventures of the name and the look in SYRIZA
It is recalled that the name of the party has gone through “forty waves” in the last decade with the reduction of its percentages. In the European elections of 2014 he participated as “Olive – Democratic Party”, in the elections of January 2015 as “PASOK – Democratic Party”, in September 2017 as “Democratic Alliance (PASOK – DIMAR)” and from 2017 as “Movement for Change” , with the partnership of PASOK, KIDISO, Potamiou, DIMAR, Citizens’ Movements for Social Democracy, EDEM, etc.
The referendum on May 8 includes another aspect that has to do with the informal political “bra de fer” with SYRIZA. The goal is for more than 40,000 to turn out for the Koumoundourou party’s by-elections last weekend. In Charilaou Trikoupi, they estimate that SYRIZA’s internal party processes are of limited interest and aspire, both in terms of impressions and numbers, to send a strong message about the emerging correlations in the progressive space.
