PASOK: The background of the ‘no’ to Evi Christofilopoulos

And while Nikos Androulakis was suffering from coronavirus, being in the prescribed quarantine, a “friend” from… the old time that the president of PASOK-KINAL had to repay her, since she did not “attend” even the party’s conference, Evi Christofilopoulou, asked to inform him about the honorary invitation he received from Kyriakos Mitsotakis in order to head the Independent Authority for Personal Data Protection.

The two met via Skype, with Mrs. Christofilopoulou – according to information – defending the honorable nature of the prime minister’s proposal and the president of PASOK informing her that she does not have the “green light” from her party. This development raised a lot of dust, as there were conflicting leaks in press offices about the outcome of the Androulakis-Christofilopoulos “date”, not Harilaou Trikoupi’s responsibility, as PASOK officials clarify.

The “positive on principle”, which was attributed in some publications as… a reaction of the president of PASOK to Christofilopoulos’ briefing, is far from his intentions, obviously. For this reason, PASOK officials clarify why PASOK said “no” to Mrs. Christofilopoulou:

1. The issue is not personal, but it echoes the perception of the leadership of PASOK-KINAL and the common people not only of the faction, but also more broadly: Do not make top deals for positions. We favor the opengov public consultation, which will attract candidates inside and outside Greece, not with the perception of sharing chairs.

2. These are cunning tactics aimed at making PASOK-KINAL think it is a permanent supplement. They want the votes and executives who were in our area, but not our political proposals and our value framework. Any executive who feels at our place must first of all have the same perceptions.

3. If the N.D. wants such “agreements”, let him do it with SYRIZA, as they did recently in the selection of ASEP members. The mandate of the citizens as well as the decision of our conference is for PASOK to become the great progressive party again. Everyone should know that this is our principle and we will not change it.

4. The proposal that PASOK-KINAL will bring to the Conference of Presidents is to hold an opengov-type public consultation with the submission of CVs.
