An airline flight Latam that would come out of Guarulhos' airport in São Paulo destined for Madrid it was canceled in the early hours of this Sunday (7) after passengers waited for hours.
Daniel Braune, one of the people who was inside the plane at the time of the incident, says he spent around 8 hours waiting for takeoff.
In a post on social media, the witness reports that it was around 1 am when, after another three hours of waiting, the crew reported that the aircraft needed repairs.
At this time, Bruane claims that some of the passengers had low blood pressure and were unwell due to the extreme heat inside the aircraft. According to him, employees would not have offered water to those present during the period.
Furthermore, Braune adds that there were a series of information mismatches, a situation in which customers did not know whether or not they should disembark the plane.
At 2am, the passengers were relocated to another company aircraft when, at approximately 4am, the crew informed them that they would not be able to continue their journey, as the working hours of the airline's service providers had been exceeded.
“Like, no kind of information, they basically said: 'get off the plane, go back to the airport and see each other'”, said Daniel, indignant. At another point in the video, around 6 am, he continued: “ We're here, it's almost 6 am, there's a huge line of people, 400 people, perhaps, to be served, and there are five Latam employees […] What was a work trip, perhaps one of the most important in my life, is now a nightmare.”
@braune @LATAM Airlines crossed all limits.
In a statement, the company states that the aircraft needed to be changed due to technical issues. In this way, the passengers who were on the first plane were disembarked and reaccommodated on a new aircraft.
However, the crew's working hours limit was exceeded and the flight had to be cancelled.
According to Latam, the passengers received assistance, such as accommodation and food, and will be reaccommodated on a special flight that was scheduled to take off at 11pm this Sunday.
“LATAM regrets the situation and reinforces that it adopts all technical and operational security measures to guarantee a safe trip for everyone”, he stated in a statement.
According to the FlightAware monitoring website, flight LA8066 took off from Guarulhos at 11:41 pm.
