Passenger traffic increased dramatically in the two months of January – February 2022 at all airports in the country with the total number of passengers handled reaching 2.6 million.
According to the statistics of the Civil Aviation Service, the first two months of 2022 are recorded in the total passenger traffic increase + 261.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 718,330 passengers were handled.
In terms of flights at the country’s airports amounted to 35,095, of which 22,063 were domestic and 13,032 international, showing an increase of + 75.5%, compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 19,998 flights were operated.
Comparing the above statistics of the two months 2022 with the two months of January / February 2019, where there were no restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in the total passenger traffic (then 4,178,269 passengers were handled), a decrease of -37.8% is recorded. . There is also a decrease in aircraft traffic -16.7% compared to the two months of 2019.
February 2022 – Increase + 305.7% in passenger traffic

The provisional statistics of the CAA for the passenger traffic of the airports in February 2022 show the following:
The total number of passengers handled amounted to 1,347,795, showing an increase of + 305.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 332,200 passengers had been handled.
Flights to all airports in the country amounted to 16,877, of which 10,749 were domestic and 6,128 international, showing an increase of + 81.7%, compared to the corresponding period of February 2021 where 9,290 flights were operated.
In particular, for the arrivals of passenger flights in February 2022, we had an increase of + 537.2% corresponding to 321,225 passengers, compared to February of ’21 when the arrivals abroad were 50,410 passengers.
Comparison of February 2022 with February 2019
Comparing the statistics with February 2019 when the flights were 19,930, this year in February there is a drop of -15.3% in aircraft traffic. In the total passenger traffic (traffic of departures and arrivals) which was 2,042,595 in February 2019, now for the same period considered there is a decrease of -34%. Regarding the arrivals of passenger flights abroad, in February 2019 it was 542,007, now for the same period considered there is a drop of -40.7%.
