Passport is valuing the act of getting vaccinated, says former president of Anvisa

A possible measure to require a vaccination passport to enter Brazil, a measure that will be discussed this Monday afternoon (6) between the government and Anvisa, has the ability to value the act of getting vaccinated.

This is what former president of Anvisa Dirceu Barbano told CNN this Monday when asked about the measures that the agency is requesting from the government to prevent the spread of the new variant in the country.

This afternoon, the agency should meet with government officials to discuss the recommendations made for requesting proof of vaccination to enter the country and the increase in the number of countries with flight restrictions.

“As you demand it, you give a clear signal that the vaccine is fundamental to the public policy for controlling the Covid epidemic,” said Barbano. “I see it as an appreciation of the act of getting vaccinated,” he said.

According to the former director of the agency, the requirement for a vaccine passport will “put Brazil on the same page as other countries, which treat the vaccine as a priority for the control of the pandemic”.

He points out that the requirement for the test alone is not enough to contain the spread of the new variant because the person may be in need of detecting the infection or even acquire the virus already within the country.

Recommendations need to be followed

Barbano says he is “uncomfortable” with the treatment that Anvisa receives from the government and questions the official discourse that the pandemic is a priority issue.

“I am uncomfortable to see that the government needs to schedule a meeting after a request from Anvisa on the 26th.

flight blocking

Regarding the blocking of flights from certain countries in Africa, another issue that will be discussed at the meeting, Barbano says that it tends to create an “apartheid”, but that it is a measure that needs to be taken until the real potential of dissemination and mortality is discovered. of the new strain.

“When you start restricting (flights from African countries), you create an apartheid that none of us wants. On the other hand, it is important to wait for a little more massive information about the effectiveness of vaccines”, he assessed.
