An evangelical pastor was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison, initially under a closed regime, after raping 10 teenagers in Guaraí (TO), 190 km from Palmas.
He responded for the crimes of rape, libidinous act and carnal union through religious fraud or abuse of authority.
According to the Tocantins Public Ministry (MP-TO), the man used his position as “spiritual leader” of an evangelical church in the municipality to sexually abuse ten teenagers, seven boys and three girls.
According to witness reports, when he called himself a “spiritual father”, he was sought out by believers to deal with cases of child abuse, pornography and masturbation.
In view of this, he applied what he called “procedures for liberation from sins”, touching victims without consent, in addition to sending sexual photos. According to the lawsuit, he claimed that the acts were a method of “taking out a demon” or “spirit of masturbation” from the victims.
The complaint was taken to court by the 1st public prosecutor of Guaraí in April this year. However, the sentence was only published on October 22.
Still according to the MP-TO, there is a possibility that the pastor may have claimed more victims. The process is being carried out in secret.
