Patagonia is on fire from huge forest fires

New forest fires broke out in Patagonia, in southern Argentina, injuring at least seven people yesterday. 15 missing and another 200 forced to flee their homes when at least 100 houses were damaged from the flames, according to the authorities.

Fires are burning in the Cordillera of the Andes, around Lake Puelo, a popular tourist destination in Chubut Province.

By the end of January, a fire had destroyed 65,000 acres of forest in the neighboring province of Rio Negro.

“I want to file a lawsuit because these are fires due to criminal activity,” Environment Minister Juan Campadier told a news conference.

«Fifteen people are missing, as multiple outbreaks occurred at the same time and more than 100 houses were damaged“, Clarified the minister.

About 200 people were forced to flee their homes with a “provisional tally of seven injured, including one seriously,” said Lago Puelo Mayor Augusto Sanchez.

The federal government has sent a firefighting aircraft and 40 firefighters to assist the work of more than 60 colleagues fighting the blaze.
