A patient who was hospitalized at the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, in Méier, Rio de Janeiro, died after a serious accident inside the hospital. The incident occurred on Sunday (30), when the man was being transported from the neurosurgery ward to the unit’s emergency area.
According to information provided by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Health Department, the elevator door fell and caused it to derail. After the accident, the man was trapped for about 16 minutes and was being resuscitated, but it was not enough to save him.
The patient had a pre-existing chronic illness and was being transferred to another unit due to worsening health conditions. An investigation was opened to investigate the case.
The hospital has been waiting for the bidding process for the installation of new elevators for at least two months.
