French health authorities said on Monday (22), that 67 people were admitted to intensive care units for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Now the total number of patients admitted to ICUs is 1,409 – surpassing the 1,400 threshold for the first time since September 30th.
Already the number of hospitalized for the disease increased by 300 compared to Sunday (21), the biggest daily increase since 23 August. There are now 8,338 patients.
In the past 24 hours, 5,266 new daily Covid-19 infections have been reported. This new escalation of cases in the country was defined as an “unbridled” wave by the spokesman for the French government, Gabriel Attal.
Unlike some of its European neighbors, France has yet to announce new restrictive measures to curb the disease, with some experts saying the new wave could peak in the country around Christmas.
Now, France has a total of 7.42 million confirmed cases of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic.
The country also recorded 97 new daily deaths from Covid-19 — the highest number since Sept. 21 — bringing the total death toll from the disease to 118,540.
According to data from the Our World in Data platform, France has already fully vaccinated 69% of the population.
