Patriarch Kirill was a ‘KGB agent’ in the 1970s, says Swiss newspaper

A Swiss newspaper claims in its publication that the Patriarch Cyril in the 1970s he worked as “agent her KGB” and how they were on a secret mission in Geneva.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill (née Vladimir Gudnyaev) was carrying out espionage activity on the orders of the State Security Committee (KGB) of the USSR, wrote characteristically Tages-Anzeiger (in her article: Putins Patriarch war Spy in der Schweiz) citing declassified government records from 1969-1989.

According to these figures, Gudnyaev worked for the Russian spy agency, using the code name “Mikhailov”.He was engaged in espionage, holding in Switzerland the official position of the representative of the Moscow Patriarchate in the World Council of Churches, the newspaper reports. His main task was to influence the World Council of Churches. From Switzerland he returned to the Soviet Union where he quickly began to advance in the church hierarchy.

The Russian Orthodox Church declined to comment on the Swiss press reports. The World Council of Churches said it had no information on the matter.
