Patrícia Travassos: Digital weapons are agile and effective in a war scenario

CNN Specialist Patrícia Travassos spoke about measures against Russia that technology companies such as Meta, Google, and Twitter have adopted.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the international community has demanded that digital platforms take action to end disinformation surrounding the conflict.

Travassos points out that in the internet age and with the proliferation of cameras and smartphones, popular reaction comes in real time.

“It is possible to feel the effects of each attack instantly, provoking more informed foreign positions and also influenced by public opinion”, she said.

Patrícia also draws attention to cyberattacks, which can destabilize a country through small continuous actions, which arise from the most diverse digital channels, in the most diverse ways.

“Far beyond military weapons, digital weapons can be fired from territories that go beyond physical borders, being more agile and more effective,” said the expert.

Furthermore, with the Russian financial system suffering harsh sanctions, Travassos points out that cryptocurrencies have been an alternative for Russian citizens.
