The singer Paula Fernandes 40, spoke about the lack of women on the list of attractions at country music events even though they have already conquered their space and are in prominence in the industry .
In an interview with CNN she said that “usually you see a billboard with five men and one woman, so, contractors, let’s invite women — whether it’s me or my coworkers — because we deserve it, we’re doing beautiful work.”
Paula recalled that the work that women are doing in music is so good that it is gaining international recognition — citing the winner of the 2024 Latin Grammy in the “Best Country Music Album” category, singer Ana Castela, with her album “Boiadeira Internacional ( Live)”.
“I felt represented and I felt there winning the award, because I know what it’s like — I know what it’s like to come out of nowhere, to be a person from the countryside, from the countryside, with boots on, and suddenly be in Las Vegas winning the Latin Grammy. It’s very crazy”, commented the owner of the hit “Pássaro de Fogo” to CNN .
The singer argues that there is still a lack of equity in the world of country music to make the number of women at events equal.
“Against good works, there are no arguments. I believe that other great singers are coming and it is only a matter of time before we have at least a balanced number”, reflected Paula.
In June, the artist competed for the 31st Brazilian Music Award in the “country performer” category — the recognition of the year went to singer Roberta Miranda.
