Paulistas and Minas Gerais are the majority among visitors to Rio; Chileans and Argentineans are also part of the ranking

Rio de Janeiro maintains its title as a Wonderful City, rated by residents and tourists as a “Rate 10” destination. This is what a survey carried out between New Year's Eve and Carnival this year, by Riotur (Tourism Company of the Municipality of Rio) and Embratur (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion) linked to the Ministry of Tourism, reveals.

The survey interviewed more than 2,000 people and showed that many of these tourists have a young and active profile, being attracted to short and intense itineraries.

The significant presence of tourists from São Paulo (26.45%) and Minas Gerais (11.96%) highlights the importance of national tourism, showing the strong representation of visitors from different regions of Brazil. Among international tourists, the highlight was the presence of countries such as Chile, Argentina and the United States.

According to the report, more than 68% of visitors are concentrated in the 18 to 49 age range. And around 49.42% of tourists stay in the city of Rio for one to five days, with a tendency for short stays, indicating a search for quick and intense experiences.

According to the survey, the loyalty of tourists shows that almost half are returning to the city for at least the third time.

The option for hotels (38.37%) reveals the search for comfort, while the preference for friends/family homes (22.24%) and Airbnb (18.17%) indicates a desire for personalized experiences. Both beaches (38.94%) and events, such as Carnival (20.9%), play a prominent role as main attractions.

Traditional tourist attractions such as Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer, internationally recognized icons, remain favorite places to visit, in addition to the beaches, nature and other attractions that continue to delight visitors.

“The result of the research was extremely satisfactory. In addition to reaffirming Rio's tourist potential, the report allows us to identify tourist flow, profile and main demands. Fundamental information for improving public and private services, identifying trends, and developing mechanisms that provide tourists with a better welcome and new experiences”, commented Ronnie Costa, president of Riotur.
