Pavel Durov: new Telegram investors have no rights to manage the service

The creator of Telegram, Pavel Durov, emphasized that new investors can in no way influence the political structure of the company. Buying bonds is not a basis for managing a social network. Durov announced this in a dialogue with the participants of Durov’s Chat on March 30, 2021.

The Russian developer noted that holding securities does not bring investors closer to leverage. Telegram bonds are just a form of debt that can be purchased on the secondary market, and therefore buyers are not associated with the organizational activities of the company.

Durov emphasized that bonds and stocks are different concepts. When selling the latter, the buyer receives not only the right to vote, but also membership in the board of directors. Telegram, in turn, has the ability to raise funds without interference from investors.

On March 15, 2021, Telegram Group Inc published $ 1 billion five-year bonds. Only a limited circle of investors can buy securities at 7% per annum. In order to take part in the auction, you must prove your solvency, since the minimum lot is $ 500,000. It is known that the bonds will be placed until 2026, and the first payments will take place as early as September 2021. Russian investors can also join the auction: on March 26, the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange provided access for transactions with Telegram Eurobonds.

Pavel Durov does not provide information about investors. However, it is known that funds from the United Arab Emirates Mubadala and Abu Dhabi Catalyst Partners announced the purchase of securities for a total of $ 150 million. This is most likely the largest investment in the company.
