PC shipments in Western Europe jumped 48% last quarter

In the first quarter of 2021, PC shipments in Western Europe reached 16.1 million units, up 48% over the same period last year. Such data is provided by the analytical company Canalys, specifying that the PC refers to desktops, laptops and workstations. According to analysts, the growth in sales indicates that the demand momentum that began in 2020 in connection with COVID-19 continues into 2021.

The lack of some key components is holding back some orders, but overall the supply chain is in much better shape than in the first quarter of 2020, when factories suddenly began to close due to the first outbreaks of COVID-19.

In terms of market allocation to major players, HP regained its top spot with 4.1 million PCs shipped, representing 26% of the market. In second place with 25% is Lenovo, which shipped 4.0 million PCs. The top five also included Dell, Apple and Acer with shares of 14%, 10% and 9%, respectively.
