The Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP) and the Military Police launched an operation this Tuesday morning (16) to dismantle a criminal group that worked in partnership with the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC).
Investigations revealed that criminals financed political election campaigns in exchange for facilitating bid fraud. Once elected, these politicians directed public contracts to companies linked to the criminal organization, which used the services to launder money.
According to prosecutor Flávia Flores, the group manipulated public tenders throughout the state, directing the results to “orange” companies linked to the group.
Public services obligated by “orange” companies were used as a way of laundering money from the PCC’s illicit activities.
According to the prosecutor, to ensure the success of the scheme, the organization corrupted public agents, including politicians and civil servants, who facilitated fraud in competitions.
The operation carried out 15 temporary arrest warrants and 42 search and seizure warrants at various addresses, including city halls, city councils and companies in cities such as Guararema, Poá, Itatiba, Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Santa Isabel, Arujá and Cubatão.
According to police authorities, the operation resulted in the seizure of four firearms, a large quantity of ammunition of different calibers, 22 cell phones, 22 notebooks, 3 and a half million in checks, and 600 thousand reais in cash.
Investigations remain ongoing with the aim of identifying everyone involved in the scheme and holding them responsible for the crimes committed.
