Peace Summit in Egypt will not have final joint declaration due to “differences” between delegations, sources say

A final joint statement will not be issued after the Peace Summit in Egypt, held this Saturday (21) to discuss the Israeli war, due to “differences” between delegations over the text, an official and a diplomat with knowledge of the matter confirmed to CNN .

The Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said he had brought together world leaders in Cairo to find a “roadmap” to end the “humanitarian tragedy” unfolding in Gaza.

The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, was present alongside representatives from 34 countries, the United Nations and international organizations for the summit. Israel did not participate in the meeting.

Abbas was firm in his comments at the meeting, telling the gathered leaders that “we will remain in our lands.”

King Abdullah II of Jordan called for an “immediate end to the war in Gaza”, urgent humanitarian aid, rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian people and a lasting resolution “based on a two-state solution”.

The French and German foreign ministers said that while Israel has the right to self-defense, it also has a responsibility to protect the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.
