During the first half of the year, hackers were able to withdraw $457.78 million. In July, the amount of stolen crypto assets amounted to $285.1 million, of which about $120 million was due to the Multichain hack. In August, attackers managed to steal $17 million worth of cryptocurrencies, and in September – $355.91 million. A third of all losses this year occurred in September – at least 22 hacks were recorded.
Last month, the team at the Mixin Network protocol, designed to solve blockchain scalability problems, reported a hacker attack that resulted in the theft of almost $200 million. Mixin offered the hacker $20 million in exchange for the return of the stolen $200 million. The amount will be considered a reward for discovering a vulnerability in protocol.
