Peckshield: Hackers stole $657 million worth of cryptocurrencies in October

In October, hackers exploited 44 vulnerabilities in at least 53 protocols, according to analyst firm Peckshield. They were able to withdraw digital assets worth over $657 million.

According to Peckshield experts, since the beginning of the year, the total damage from hacker attacks on cryptocurrency projects has amounted to about $3 billion. For comparison, this is twice as much as for the whole of last year.

Hackers took advantage of the Profanity vulnerability in cryptocurrency wallets, vulnerabilities in smart contracts, and the poor architecture of some projects. One of the most frequently hacked were network bridges. Specifically, the hackers were able to steal over $100 million worth of assets from a bridge in the BNB Chain network.

There were other major hacks, for example, the Mango Market trading platform lost $114 million. At the same time, the developers managed to negotiate with the attackers – the hackers returned $67 million in exchange for the remaining funds and the absence of prosecution.

Earlier it was reported that the cryptocurrency project Cosmos is preparing the introduction of a new security system for the main Hub network.
