The actor Pedro Neschling 42, used social media to talk about the National Day for People with Hearing Impairment celebrated this Thursday (26). The artist who was recently in the soap opera “Reborn”, from TV Globo, had already explained that he uses hearing aids and spoke about the subject again.
“Here in Brazil, there are over 10.7 million people with some degree of hearing loss. And our disability is invisible, hence the importance of celebrating this date. In a society that pays little attention to differences, everyday life can become very complicated for many of us (especially those who have suffered a more severe loss)”, he begins in his caption.
Next, Pedro mentions that since he started talking publicly about his deafness, he has received many reports from people who are embarrassed to accept their disability socially or are family members worried about their loved ones diagnosed with hearing loss.
“What I have to say to you is: calm down! A disability is not a damning letter. It is just one of the countless characteristics that the person has. Understanding the situation and, calmly, seeking the help possible in each case is the first and most important step”, he explains.
In his report, the actor also reinforces that “it is not us who need to adapt to standardized molds, but the opposite. Society must pay attention to people with disabilities and prepare to include them in all spaces and spheres. This is not a favor, it is civility and humanity.”
Finally, he gives advice both to people with hearing impairment and to other people in society: “If you, like me, are a person with hearing impairment, don’t feel alone and much less smaller than others. If you are a person without a disability, avoid silly jokes and seek knowledge about anti-disability attitudes that can transform the world into a better place for everyone. Everything gets much better when it’s good for everyone.”
At the beginning of 2022, the artist had already shared a photo of his hearing aids, when he revealed: “When I tell others that I’m deaf, a lot of people laugh thinking it’s a joke — not out of malice, but because they don’t conceive of it as a possibility ”. At the time, he also explained that he wore the devices in both ears.
