Pedro Sampaio records a song with a fan he met at an airport gate; listen

The singer Pedro Sampaio, 26, released his new album, “Astro”, last Wednesday (4). Among the 15 tracks is “Prece” music recorded with MC Thiago, 13, young man who caught the artist’s attention on an airport fence while trying to show off his rhymes — and it worked.

In an interview with CNN, The owner of the hit “Pocpoc” spoke about meeting the teenager who inspired him. “You don’t need to have a microphone in your hand, on stage, with the best manager, with a light in your face to shine and actually let your light appear there,” said Pedro Sampaio.

“This is the personification of ‘Astro’,” he commented during the conversation. The singer’s new album reflects the maturity he has gained since his last album, “Chama Meu Nome,” and symbolizes his eclectic taste that came from his cradle — from a family, according to him, that is typically Brazilian.

Sampaio says that Thiago was shirtless, wearing shorts and shouting in the middle of people who live around the airport trying to get their attention, saying that he was also a singer.

“He came with courage, determination and attitude. I looked into his eyes and saw the sparkle in his eyes and what he sang to me touched my heart,” said Sampaio. The phrases spoken by the teenager — which were included in the lyrics of “Prece” — were: “I will try, I will succeed, I will fight, I will persist and never let myself fall.”

After impressing Sampaio, the MC was invited to go to a show, go on stage and participate in the new album. According to the singer, it was the first time the teenager had flown in a plane and had his voice recorded in a studio.

Pedro said that when Thiago was asked to record a statement about the song, he was moved by the statement: “Pedro has no idea what he did for me. I don’t know if another artist would do this for someone else, but he made my dream come true and inspired me to do this with other children.”

The action was in line with what the musician is trying to convey with the new album. “There are several layers that enrich the story and this is the personification of what I want to show in ‘Astro’: that it is about giving and receiving light,” said Sampaio.

The Orquestra Maré do Amanhã, a group of children’s voices organized in the Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro, takes part in the video — which was released three days before the full album so as not to be “devoured” by the other songs, as the singer commented.

“To have this feeling that Tiago’s voice reverberates for other children and for the future”, reported Pedro Sampaio.
