US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi departed Taiwan today after a historic and controversial visit to which Beijing responded with threats and announcements of military exercises.
Pelosi, 82, greeted officials on the runway at Songshan Airport in Taipei before boarding a US military aircraft that took off at 6:00 p.m. local time (12:00 Greek time), according to footage broadcast live by television networks.
Pelosi, whose delegation made an unannounced but closely watched stop in Taiwan last night (local time) after visits to Singapore and Malaysia, is expected to continue her Asian tour with stops in South Korea and Japan.
