Peng Shui: Video of her appearance at a tennis tournament released – The international community is not convinced

The case of the disappearance of the tennis player Peng Shui is taking a new turn, whose traces disappeared in early November when she accused a former high-ranking Chinese official of forcing her to have sex.

According to a video released by Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the state-run Global Times newspaper, the athlete seems to have been present at a youth tennis tournament in Beijing.

The journalist wrote on Twitter – a platform that is officially banned in China – that the video was taken on Sunday, but this claim could not be verified.

The international community is not convinced

Despite the plans with Peng Shui appearing smiling, the international community appears to have its doubts about the situation in which it finds itself.

Representative of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) said that the last shots were “insufficient” and still do not address the federation’s concerns for its well-being.

Steve Simon, President and CEO of WTA, said: “Although it is positive to see her, it remains unclear whether she is free and able to make decisions and act on her own, without coercion or outside intervention.

This video alone is inadequate. As I have stated from the beginning, I am still concerned about the health and safety of Peng Shui and that the allegation of sexual assault is being censored and buried under the rug. “I was clear about what needs to happen and our relationship with China is at a difficult crossroads.”

Another video shows the champion signing children’s tennis balls in order to “inspire more children to play tennis,” other state media reporters said. It was preceded by a previous video released by Hu Xijin showing the 35-year-old eating at a Beijing restaurant, presumably on Saturday night.

Sunday’s videos failed to allay the concerns of sports authorities and Western leaders who say the videos cannot be verified and do not prove to be safe and sound.
