20-year-old Aleisia Owens from Pennsylvania accused of fatally poisoning her boyfriend's 18-month-old daughter by giving her drink acetone.
The investigation shows that, for months, the defendant conducted meticulous research on how certain substances harm children. He then allegedly acted accordingly.
The child had been hospitalized months before his death after swallowing batteries and screws
On June 25, 2023, Bailey Jacoby returned to the home he shared with Owens and found his daughter unconscious.
The girl was taken to hospital but had to be airlifted to another before dying four days later.
Owens told police that Iris hit her head after falling from her bed. However, an autopsy soon determined that Iris had died of acetone poisoning, and investigators found that Owens had allegedly done several searches on the Internet, such as “beauty products that are poisonous to children” and “medications that lead to accidental deaths poisoning of children,” the authorities said.
“Her phone searches were a critical piece of evidence against her,” said New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem.
Investigators also said the child had been hospitalized months before his death after swallowing batteries and screws.
