Pentagon: Russia has not yet managed to occupy Mariupol

Russian forces have been “stuck” in several parts of Ukraine, says a senior US Defense official, who claimed that Mariupol has not been occupied yet, despite the relevant statement of the mayor of the city today.

In particular, according to CNN, a senior US defense official told reporters today that there was “no change” in the situation in Mariupol, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv or Kharkov.

“They have made no progress towards Kyiv, they have not made any progress elsewhere in the north, either in Chernihiv or Kharkov,” the unnamed official said.

According to him, in Mariupol, Russian forces continue to use “large-scale fire”, but “have not managed to occupy the city.”

The official added that there was no change in the airspace or the “marine environment”.

He also said that Russian forces “did not advance on Mykolaiv at all over the weekend”, which he said meant “therefore out of town”.

Finally, the official noted that Russian forces have carried out more than 1,370 rocket launches in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion.
