Russia has an already weakened military and is a weakened state in general, after the war in neighboring Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said today, ahead of a meeting between NATO allies and their partners.
“It’s a weaker army. It’s a weaker state right now and they are isolating themselves again,” Kirby told CNN.
“We want Russia not to be able to threaten its neighbors again in the future,” the Pentagon spokesman said.
“Its economy has collapsed. Its army has been exhausted in many ways, not completely, but it has certainly suffered human and other losses in this invasion of Ukraine,” he added.
Kirby did not provide further details on his assessment of the situation in the Russian military.
