Several Pernambuco cities have been hit by heavy rains since last Tuesday night (20). In a few hours, streets became rivers, residents were island and trees fell, preventing vehicles from passing.
Because of the storm, this Wednesday (21), classes were suspended in several municipal schools, including Recife, Jaboatão, Olinda, Paulista, Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Ipojuca. Universities such as UFPE, UPE, UFRPE and UNICAP also interrupted their face -to -face activities. The state education network paralyzed only in the most affected regions.
The Court of Justice of Pernambuco and the Regional Electoral Court adopted the teleworking regime.
In Caruaru, in the state’s Agreste, the rains caused a tree to fall in one of the city’s main avenues. Another tree fell on the PE-60 highway, in the municipality of Tamandaré. A truck was hit and no one was injured.
In Itambé, the Capibaribe Mirim River overflowed and left the district of Caricé partially submerged. In Ipojuca, tracks are impassable.
According to the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency (APAC), Cabo de Santo Agostinho recorded the largest volume of rain in 24 hours: 187.22 mm. Then appear Triunfo (181 mm), Barreiros (177 mm), ladder (155 mm) and Ipojuca (147 mm).
Civil Defense continues to monitor risk areas and guides residents to avoid approaching slopes and look for shelters in case of infiltration or soil movements. The forecast indicates that the rains should persist in the coming hours, with the possibility of new high accumulated.
The coastal part of Pernambuco, in addition to the east of Alagoas and the Paraíba forest zone, are on alert red – of great danger – for the rains.
