Peru has received the first doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine

The Peru received yesterday a first batch of the US-German consortium vaccine Pfizer/BioNTech for the new coronavirus, announced the Prime Minister of the country Violeta Bermuda.

“The government is fulfilling its promises and vaccines continue to arrive in the country. We will not stop the immunization campaign that started on February 9, we will continue it until our last day “in power”, pointed out, according to AMPE, the head of the government of the incumbent President Francisco Sagasti.

So far, the Latin American country has received 50,000 doses of this vaccine. Peru has signed an agreement to supply 20 million doses of its product Pfizer.

Last month, Peruvian authorities stepped up their immunization campaign after receiving a first batch of 300,000 doses of the vaccine developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical industry Sinopharm.

More than 46,000 COVID-19 deaths have been officially reported in Peru out of a total of 1.33 million SARS-CoV-2 cases. Part of the Peruvian scientific community, however, considers the official report to be very underestimated in relation to reality in the Andean state.
