The Peruvian Public Prosecutor's Office reported that it decided to expand the preliminary investigations against President Dina Boluarte in the so-called Rolex case, and incorporate “the alleged practice of the crime of undue passive bribery” into the investigation.
Authorities have been investigating the president since March for the alleged crimes of “illicit enrichment and failure to record statements in documents”, related to the use of watches from the luxury brand. After the expansion, the investigation against Boluarte now covers three crimes.
A CNN contacted the Peruvian Presidency, but there was no response.
Boluarte's first public version when questioned by the press about her use of a Rolex, following a report from a journalistic outlet, was that what she has is the result of “effort and work” and that that watch was “from the old days”.
In April, the president stated in a statement that she accepted the watches as a “loan” from the governor of the Ayacucho region, Wilfredo Oscorima.
Oscorima's lawyer, Humberto Abanto, said publicly that the watches were loaned to the head of Estadp. The governor is also investigated in this case.
