Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emanuel Macron had two telephone conversations on Sunday about the situation in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said.
The two leaders spoke yesterday and agreed to hold a meeting of the tripartite contact group on Ukraine.
“Yesterday (…) on the initiative of President Macron, a second telephone conversation took place between the leaders of France and Russia,” Peshkov explained, adding that the two sides continued their talks “on the situation in Ukraine.”
According to the Kremlin spokesman, “the two presidents stressed the need to continue the dialogue between the foreign ministries and political advisers.”
“Contacts between Russia and France at the level of foreign ministers are also possible in the near future,” Peshkov added.
Earlier, the French president’s office announced that Putin had agreed in principle to meet with his US counterpart Joe Biden on Ukraine.
