The expulsion from Russia of the American deputy ambassador to Moscow Bart Gorman is a response to a challenge, said today the spokesman of the Russian president Dmitry Peshkov.
“As for the deportation of the American diplomat, it is a response measure, and it can not be a measure as an act that provokes something. It is a response to a challenge,” Peshkov said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said yesterday that Gorman’s deportation from Russia was in response to the unjustified deportation of a Russian embassy’s adviser-envoy to Washington. She added that the State Department ostentatiously ignored Moscow’s request to extend the diplomat’s stay until his replacement arrives.
The result, Zakharova said, was forcing him to leave without a replacement, which “exacerbated the already critical staffing deficit in the Russian diplomatic mission created by the” visa war “launched by the Americans.
