Petritsione: New European framework for energy and climate for 2030

The key features of the new integrated “Fit for 55” policy package, to be officially announced in the summer, and translates the EU ‘s new ambitions into an updated legislative framework for energy and climate for 2030, said Mr. Rafaele Mauro Petricione, Head of the Directorate for Climate Action of the European Commission, in an interview with APE-MPE, in the context of the Delphi Economic Forum.

Mr Petricione analyzed the EU’s co-operation with the Greek government on the ambitious goal of de-lignification and stressed that “the Europe Green Agreement is the primary means of promoting this green and inclusive recovery”. He referred to the Climate Targets, the Recovery Fund and the NextGenerationEU, noting that “recovery stimulus measures are already beginning and gaining momentum”.

“Europeans seem determined to learn from the pandemic and seize the opportunity to accelerate the green transition,” he said.

“The EU and the US can lead the world to a green, cyclical, competitive and inclusive economy,” Petritsione said, referring specifically to the Mediterranean, Europe’s “hot spot” for climate change. “We can turn climate and environmental challenges into great opportunities for sustainable development, prosperity and resilience.”
