Petrobras and União need to contribute to fuel prices, says Pacheco

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD), met this Thursday (12) with state finance secretaries to discuss the constant increase in fuel prices.

“Unfortunately, the moment is one of frustration, we had expectations of a containment in the increase in fuel prices that did not take place”, said Pacheco after the meeting at a press conference.

Pacheco believes that the effort should be shared between the Union, states and Petrobras.

“The participation of the Union, when taking measures regarding the tax share on fuel, to the states that since November have adopted the single tariff, and the third factor is the need for Petrobras to fulfill its social purpose of being able to ensure that fuels do not undergo so many changes in terms of price for more,” he said.

Pacheco pointed out that there are proceedings in Congress on the subject, citing Bill 1472: “Regarding the stabilization account that uses various revenues, but above all Petrobras dividends for the Union, so that these dividends, which today are stratospheric, far beyond the world average for a company in this segment, can be reverted to society”, he said.

“Petrobras’ profits will continue to exist, but within a proportionality that does not sacrifice the consumer, especially thinking about those who most depend on fuel, such as truck drivers, delivery men and drivers”, he highlighted. PL 1472 was approved in the Senate and needs to go through the Chamber of Deputies.

Pacheco also mentioned the need to approve PEC 110, which deals with a single tax on consumption, extinguishing taxes and creating the Tax on Operations with Goods and Services (IBS).

“The PEC should be guided this week in the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission and, if approved, we will soon guide the Plenary”, said the president of the Senate, emphasizing that “tax reform in an election year is difficult”, he concluded.
