Petrobras discovers new oil well in pre-salt area in Rio

Petrobras has discovered a new oil well in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The discovery was made in the southern portion of the Campos Basin pre-salt, in a wildcat well in the Alto de Cabo Frio Central block, located 230 km from the state capital.

The new well was found after using a probe, contracted by the state-owned company. Oil samples were collected, which will be analyzed and characterized in the laboratory.

“The result is the result of a successful strategy by the consortium based on maximum use of data, and the application of new technological solutions in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, leveraged by the use of supercomputers and HPC resources (High Performance Computing), enabling the processing of data acquired in real time and allowing decision-making in an agile and safe way”, Petrobras said in a statement released.

The next steps will now be to measure the thickness of this layer and measure, through small perforations around the basin, the true extent of the deposit. From there, once the potential and quality of this oil is identified, the drilling of drainage wells begins to start production.

Acquired in 2017 in the 3rd bidding round of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), under the Production Sharing regime and with Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA) as manager, Petrobras holds 50% of this block. , and the other 50% belongs to BP Energy do Brasil Ltda..

This means that all production and exploration costs will be divided between the two groups. As well as the possible future profits that this oil can generate.
