Petrobras presents new strategic plan this Wednesday (30)

Petrobras presents this Wednesday (30), possibly after the market closes, the strategic plan for the period 2023-2027. Before that, the document, which defines the purposes and goals for the next four years, will be approved by the company’s Board of Directors.

The Lula government’s transition team even asked the board of directors of the state-owned company to postpone the presentation so that the plan could count on contributions from the future management, in a meeting held last Monday (28).

However, he received information that the postponement was impossible due to a matter of deadlines to be met, but that the next board of directors of the company could analyze and revise the document.

This was the information received, according to Maurício Tolmasquin, executive coordinator of the working group on transition energy and former president of the Energy Research Company (EPE).

The Lula government has not yet disclosed who should be the new president of Petrobras, but among the main candidates is Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT), who was at the meeting with the current commander of the company, Caio Paes de Andrade.

Tolmasquin points out that the transition group does not have the objective of making decisions, but of drawing up an overview that will help the new government to think about strategies. However, he has already said that two subjects are important to the team: investments and the energy transition.

“These are issues on which we have very different views from the current government. We think that Petrobras is behind in the energy transition. Today, the biggest oil companies have become energy companies. We have to get into this issue of new sources, such as offshore wind, hydrogen, decarbonization targets. These are signals that companies give to the market to insert themselves in this new context of climate change”, he defended.

The former president of EPE also reinforced the need to expand Petrobras’ investments, for example, in oil refining, with the aim of making the country less vulnerable to external market shocks.

“Dividends are very important to remunerate shareholders, but part of them has to be used for investments. This is an issue that will be looked into,” she pointed out.

Also this Wednesday, the working group on energy will present a preliminary report on the area. In addition, the representatives plan a new meeting with members of Petrobras’ current management, this time in person. The meeting should take place next Monday (5), at the headquarters of the state-owned company, in Rio de Janeiro.

Transition meeting had a cordial atmosphere

The meeting held between Petrobras and the transition group, which took place last Monday, was cordial.

“At the meeting, the first steps were established for a professional transition and within good governance rules. Petrobras made itself available to provide all the information necessary for the transition team to complete a first diagnosis that should support the next management”, disclosed the company in a note.

Also in a note, Senator Jean Paul Prates declared that the meeting was productive. “We deal with preliminary matters, such as the confidentiality of documents and exchanges of information. We also define secrecy criteria, classification and types of data, as well as how they should circulate. We are seeking all information for our report, obviously taking every precaution to avoid undue speculation and information leakage,” he said.
