Petrobras president goes to Brasilia a day after exchange at the Ministry of Mines and Energy

The day after economist Adolfo Sachsida replaced Bento Albuquerque in charge of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Petrobras President José Mauro Coelho Ferreira traveled to Brasília for a series of meetings with ministers of President Jair Bolsonaro.

The most important agenda is scheduled for the end of this Thursday afternoon (12), when Mauro Coelho hopes to meet Sachsida for the first time. The objective, according to a spokesperson for the state-owned company’s president, is to collaborate with the transition and make itself available on behalf of Petrobras.

José Mauro Ferreira Coelho was close to Bento Albuquerque, having held the position of oil and gas secretary in the ministry, and was appointed by the former minister to replace General Joaquim Silva e Luna. THE CNN contacted the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which, so far, has not confirmed the meeting.

With the dismissal of Bento Albuquerque, the future of the collegiate elected in April is uncertain. The chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors, Márcio Weber, told CNN who does not expect changes, despite not having received information about his and Mauro Ferreira’s fate. “After all, this government has little time, we are in the middle of an election year and it would be more wear and tear”, he evaluated about a possible replacement.

José Mauro Ferreira Coelho’s visit to Brasília also includes meetings at the Civil House, headed by Ciro Nogueira, and at the Central Bank. The meetings, according to his adviser, were proposed by the president of Petrobras with the aim of seeking institutional dialogue. Civil House still does not have information about the meeting with the president of Petrobras this Thursday in Brasília. The BC has not yet officially responded.

José Mauro Ferreira Coelho completes 1 month at the helm of Petrobras this Saturday (14th). Since taking office, the executive has published photos of meetings with authorities on social media, as well as messages to employees and the population. The posts show meetings between Ferreira and Ciro Nogueira, Joaquim Leite, Minister of the Environment, and Cláudio Castro, governor of Rio de Janeiro. In his inaugural speech, on the 14th, he stated that his administration would value the improvement of external communication, a demand of President Jair Bolsonaro.
